We Are Our Ancestor’s Wildest Dreams — SOLD OUT

A Conscious Dance workshop designed for all self-identified Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

Saturday, September 19th, 2020 10am-1pm

WITH: Valerie Chafograck and guest teacher Dominique Cowling

WHERE: ONLINE via Zoom

REGISTRATION: We are opening registration only to dancers that were signed up for our March 21st workshop, which was canceled due to COVID. If you registered for the March workshop and would like to attend this one, please confirm your registration by emailing Beth at assistant.dance.sanctuary@gmail.com.

WHAT: Participants are invited to explore alone and together, through free form movement and facilitated inquiries, eclectic music, stillness, and silence. The lens of Soul Motion® practice – with a taste of mindful movement – will develop a pathway to freedom for self and collective expression.

We take time to build a container that invites us to learn somatic tools, expand the capacity within us to embody the truth of our ancestors, and reframe our future, infused with the wisdom of our bodies and souls in motion.

Let the richness of our histories, with all its brilliance and suffering, inform our dance and abilities to grow new seeds of resilience and weave a fabric of new possibilities.

As people of color, we rarely get a chance to rest together, breathe together, move together, or dream together.

We will co-create a safe space where we pay attention, pray and play, and practice cultivating a judgment-free environmentwith the idea that “it’s not about how it looks. It’s about how it feels.”

ALL ARE WELCOME… beginners and dance devotees. All ages and all genders are encouraged to attend.

Participants will be required to attend the entire duration of the workshop. NO late arrivals, early departures, or partial attendance.

Praise

The first daylong Conscious Dance Workshop for People of Color was a stunning success—and from the collective reaction, an answer to a deep longing that had harbored in all our hearts. The trajectory from beginning to end was seamless: Valerie facilitated with a light but expert touch that invited everyone’s full expression of their ancestral identities. She created a soulful, safe container—inviting us all to relax and trust and feel free to animate what is too often suppressed in other contexts. Many meaningful patterns of powerful self-expression and connection emerged from this sweet guidance! I felt enveloped by a great archetypal wisdom emanating from the participants, an emergence of profound gifts that were deeply nourishing to the heart, body, and mind—a kind of mutual healing.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this gorgeous, life-giving experience, particularly because it evoked the possibility of the kinder, more beautiful future that is possible when all our voices are included.
